SOUTHERN MISS SOFTBALL COMPLEX

The Southern Miss Softball Complex is in its eighth year of operation in 2009, and the Lady Eagles are enjoying their own field after spending the first three years of the program's reinstatement, playing home games at off-campus facilities.

On March 21, 2002, Southern Miss hosted Arkansas in a doubleheader for the Complex's first competition. An attendance of 668 was on hand to see the inaugural event, as the Lady Razorbacks claimed a pair of one-run contests.

The Lady Eagles fans were faithful throughout the first season at the Complex. With 19 home games, the opening year at the Complex attracted 10,714 people, recording an average of 564. Currently the highest attended even at the Southern Miss Softball Complex is a doubleheader against Mississippi State, which was played on April 3, 2002, and drew the record crowd of 841.

In the fall of 2002, a team dressing and training building was placed behind the third base dugout. The building also housed the softball coaches' offices before they were relocated to the Southern Miss Athletic Center. An indoor hitting facility was installed in January 2005 and additional batting cages are located behind the first base dugout.

Additional improvements will be made in the coming years, as Southern Miss continues its campaign to improve athletic facilities on campus.

The irrigated outfield features 419 grass with rye over-seed, and fencing encompasses 200 feet down the foul lines and 220 feet to straight center. The dugouts have a "major-league" design and hold restrooms and ample storage space.

Bleacher seating for more than 500 is currently available, as well as concession and restroom facilities. Future plans include a permanent grandstand with benchback seating that will span from dugout to dugout. Other projected additions include a fully-equipped press box.
